FAQ

About the Why Are You Eating? Programme

  1. How long is the Why Are You Eating? programme?

The Why Are You Eating? Programme lasts for 7 weeks.

  2. What topics are covered in the Why Are You Eating? Programme?

Week 1 - Explains the theory around the dieting, and why it is only ever a short term solution.  We also look at physical hunger and start to use the hunger scale.

Week 2 - Looks at how our body is the very best judge of what it wants and needs to eat, rather than the diet industry.  It examines taking the power away from food, so that we no longer experience cravings.

Week 3 - You will learn how to set goals, using NLP and psychological techniques, e.g. appropriate phrasing, the law of attraction and visualisation.

Week 4 - Learn how to incorporate activity and exercise naturally into your everyday life.  Become motivated to exercise more, and choose an activity you enjoy.

Week 5 - Looks at nutrition, and how to make more healthier swaps, whilst still listening to your body.

Week 6 - Learn to be nice to yourself, without comforting or rewarding yourself with food.  Conquer your emotional eating.

Week 7 - Become the shape you want for the rest of your life - how to maintain your new thinking and behaviour.

  3. Why do we have homework each week?

Each week, I will introduce at least one new way of thinking and behaving, which will get you well on the road to becoming a 'naturally slim person'.  However, it is not enough to know this thinking and behaving, you have to be able to DO it in your normal everyday life.  It's a bit like thinking you can drive a car just by reading a manual, you have to practise your skills too.  The homework does not take long, and it can be as simple as before you go to eat something you ask yourself 'Am I physically hungry?  If so, on a scale of 1 - 10, how hungry am I?'

  4. How much does the Why Are You Eating? Programme cost?

The classes are £7 a week for 7 weeks.  This is payable as one lump sum of £49 or two payments of £24.50 (payable on week 1 on 4 of the course).  This second option helps to spread your payments over 2 pay packets, and also for you to see if the Programme is right for you.

The Home Study package is £35 payable through the website.  This is a slightly cheaper option, equating to £5 a week for 7 weeks.

  5. Where are the classes held?

At present, we have 2 classes in April:

    1. Total Fitness, Handforth, Wilmslow, Cheshire
    2. Funizuz Children's play area, Cheadle, Cheshire

However, if you have a group of friends, colleagues, relatives etc who would like to experience the Programme, I can come to you!

  6. What are the classes like?

They are fun, friendly and informative!

We use a mixture of theory, exercises and group discussions to explore each topic.  I promise not to put you on the spot, or do anything silly, or heavens forbid a humiliating 'weigh-in'!  If you do not feel comfortable joining in with a certain exercise, just let me know, and your wishes will be respected.

Quiet a few of the groups have organised follow-up sessions after the Programme has finished, as they have enjoyed each other's company and want to see how they are progressing.

  7. How much weight will I lose on the Programme?

Everyone is different.  We do not do weekly weigh-ins, but on Week 1 of the course, you do get a table to track your weight and measurements.  We do not ask you each week if you have lost weight, but if you want to share this information with other course participants it is entirely up to you.

I would describe the weight loss as consistent and steady.  It is rare that we get the 1/2 stone weight loss that you see at slimming clubs in the first week.  This is mainly water by the way!!  The weight loss is usually 1 - 2lbs most weeks.  It is real weight loss, not water or muscle.  And best of all, it is achievable through eating all your favourite foods - so no deprivation or hunger!

Just think, 1lb a week equals 52lbs over a year!!  Nearly 4 stone.

  8. What sort of foods can I eat?

There are no diet sheets, calorie counting, fat counting, syns, coloured days, shakes, liquid meals .......etc.

We will teach you to eat when you are PHYSICALLY hungry and eat what your body tells you it needs to eat.  This could be anything from chicken, strawberries, celery, chocolate, spinich, beans, crisps, biscuits, lamb, fish, chips, bananas, mashed potato........

Get it?  NO FOODS ARE OFF LIMITS.  You can eat all your favourite foods and still lose weight.  I PROMISE!

  9. What exercise do I need to do?

There are no punishing exercise routines, no going for the burn!

We do encourage you to make your life naturally more active and to take up sporting activities - but only those you enjoy.

About Why Are You Eating?

  1. How did Why Are You Eating? start?

The company was started by Vanessa Heaps in Autumn 2009 after Vanessa was made redundant as a Communications Co-ordinator for The Home Retail Group.

Vanessa had struggled with her weight for 20 years, losing a bit here and there, only to put it back on again and lots more!  About 4 years ago, after joining a well known slimming club for the umpteenth time, she decided that there had to be a better way.  Vanessa started to research how 'naturally slim' people thought and behaved around food and discovered it was very very different to her 'fat thinking'.

When her weight had reduced and stayed the same for a year, friends, family and colleagues began to ask her how she had sustained her weight loss.  The Why Are You Eating? Programme was the result!

Vanessa is passionate about giving people the control back around food and eating, and to educate people to enjoy eating as a wonderful past time.

  2. What are Vanessa Heaps' qualifications and experience?

Vanessa has a BSc (Hons) Psychology and has subsequently trained in Neuro Linguistic Programming and Emotional Freedom Technique.

Her career to date has been in Adult Learning and Development in Industry, teaching Information Technology, Customer Services and Management Skills.  She has worked for The Co-operative Group, a small independent E-learning company and The Home Retail Group.

Home Study Option

  1. What do I get with the Home Study option?

You will be e-mailed a lesson each week for you to complete.  This should take approximately an hour.  Then you will practise your new thinking and behaviour through out the week.  At the end of the week, the Tutor will send you a review e-mail to see how you have got on that week, and if you need any further coaching and support.  On completion of the review, the next week will be e-mailed out to you.
